Revision due to Feedback

Changed character creation a bit to account for a max stat of 5. Now if you roll a 6 at chargen for a stat you define a Knack and then roll again. This removes the free Knack that characters started with in v.01, but allows for more randomness and possibly more Knacks.

Clarified some text regarding Growth and Loot both in the rules and on the setting sheet, including when to hold when to discard cards.

Thanks to u/JacobDCRoss on reddit for the feedback leading to this update.

Hi again, Logen!

I made a review of this game in my blog post. Please have a look and feel free to correct me if there's a misinformation. Thanks!

Hi Logen, I got you the translation to spanish.
I send you the text and you put it the layout or do you prefer I do it?

If it's first option, what it is your e-mail?
If it's second option, you can send me the layout to kedola.go@gmail.com

ty in advance.

Oh Heya, I thought you were asking if you could do the translation, not providing me one to format and produce. Sadly my plate is pretty full right now. Feel free to do it up as you like, just making sure to attribute me and link to the original.

Ok don't worry, I'll do it and give you the credit.

BTW I have more doubts:

1. could you explain me how I should resolve number 12 to Terrain roll: Point of Interest that advances the Mission? How do you stablish that is an advance in the mission? is it just narrative or is there something I'm missing?

2. In the rules part, where you say "Move to another space. If Terrain and Point of Interest already explored roll a d6, drawing an Encounter on a 4+", how this is resolved? I draw an encounter card, add four to the result and then look it up in the table or should I draw cards until I get an encounter of more than 4?

3. In the last note in the rules, where you talk about rest, in your title say "Cont." what is the complete word?

4. Finally, in the table of mission generators I have problems to translate a word. What do you mean with "Rich" in Location's column? Could you give me some synonyms to try to understand that word? Pls

Ty.

Hi, Logen!

I've done 2 runs of the game so far, one with just the system and rolling dice and the current one with a bit of journaling roleplay (I have more fun this way). But on both I found myself in a dilemma on how to treat a failed check / rolls. Sure I can decide myself what to do on failures like on 1st run I immediately reroll my remaining dice until I succeeded / ran out of dice, and on the 2nd I decided that the day is failed and I didn't get any of the reward.

My question is :

How do you treat failures on this game? I want to be as close as your intention when I finally play and document it on a streaming / video sharing platform / podcast.

Heck, I should've asked if I'm even allowed to make content with this game?

Thank you in advance!

I'm on vacation right now and will give a deeper reply with examples when home probably Sat. But I wanted to let you know you can absolutely make content with FPS, so long as I'm attributed (as I'm sure you would have).

Thank you for the fast reply, and also for the permission. I'll try my best to do justice for this game. Have a safe trip!

Hi Logen,

Apart from reminding you of my previous question, I also wanna ask about what to do when I reached the destination (draw a joker on encounter). Do I choose a suitable PoV, complete the challenge and done with it, or do I just decelera completion at that point?

Thanks

Heya, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you, had a lot of stuff pile on top of me on return and I forgot.

In response to your first questions, my intention with the game was to continue to roll on a failure, losing dice with each failure until I was out of dice (i.e. dead).

Regarding your second response/reminder, the Joker represents that you have completed a mission if one was generated at the start of the game, so yes you basically declare success for that run (or keep playing if you rolled 2 missions).

Hi, Logen. No worries! Real life should always take priority so I can understand.

So regarding the failure, even if I have less Luck dice than the required success I still roll anyway? For example I encountered Survival challenge with 3 boxes and I only have 2 Luck dice left?

Thank you for taking your time responding. Appreciate that.

BTW, I did a playtest where I moved to the next area on success or failure, I guess I played on easy mode haha. I'll put the replay on my blog soon.

Yes, you roll anyway, because if you get two passes and tick 2 boxes, you roll again hoping to tick that last box before losing your dice. Think of each roll as a single beat, a single moment of action, and sometimes events require more than one action to defeat.

Regarding moving on success or failure, you can certainly play that way. You'll cover more ground for sure.

Thanks for sharing the game! I have a question about Knacks. By “define” you mean it could be anything the player thought of that fit the setting, right?

Also, let’s say I roll 6 twice on a stat, does that means I get two Knacks on the same stat and +2 bonus dice?

Thank you in advance!

Yep you've got it right. A knack is a specific situation that you gain +1 die in, and you should consider the setting when defining it. No point being a goblin basher if you are playing in a setting with no goblins.

And yes, if you roll two 6s before 4 you gain 2 Knacks, but it's important to note that Knacks aren't tied to your stats. They affect one specific situation or type (i.e. bashing goblins) but can be used with any Stat on any roll if it makes sense.

So for example, following the available setting, if I define “expert machinist” as a knack, I can use the +1 dice to any stat check involving tinkering with machine? Like persuading to trade an item with my repair service, or fixing machine in a hurry for survival, or operating machines in a fight etc? Is the die single use only or is it permanent?

Honestly before you say that the bonus die / knacks are not tied to any stat, my isntinct is to define a knack based on a stat

Also, will there be any new setting for the game?

Yes, if it makes sense (it's your game, your call) you can use the +1 with an stat or roll. And yes it is permanent.

Regarding new settings, I was working on a straight Western expansion, and had thought of doing a few more, but other projects took over the mindspace. I might go back to it.

Okay, now I understand how knacks works, just hope I roll something later, haha.

Thanks for the answer! Looking forward for the updates.
